Defense Secretary Robert Gates talked this week about the number of useless studies being conducted and how they're costing taxpayers millions. And lo and behold, I saw this poster (above) at the hospital yesterday. Why do servicemembers get tattoos? Really? How much is this study costing?

I, on the other hand, am taking part in another USEFUL study that is looking into why some of us with perfect vision are having the blurries. They think its the trauma from bomb blasts shaking loose connections between our brains and our eyes. Friday I go in for extensive testing.

Wow! Sounds a bit intense, but I think its really wonderful that you're helping out with these studies; it might be able to help someone else out down the road.

I came across your blog today and have been reading my way through your posts and checking out links. You are one gutsy chick. (I used chick so you wouldn't feel old.) I wish I had half your spunk. Was very interested in your comment about being "detached" in one of your posts. I know it might seem odd, but I believe that this is an attribute that helps one get through many difficult situations in life... but it is not for the faint of heart. I have another comment regarding fishsticks, but this is getting ridiculously long. Keep on sweating, til it don't smell no more. (sic x 2)
