The iWalk

I was fitted for the new power foot this week. It was a long process...and I walk so slowly I threw off the software. My therapist says I'm driving a Ferrari like a Honda Accord. So I'm not yet getting the full benefit, which is an ankle. I walked ramps and stairs and hills and it did start to kick in. Its noisy, tho. So I won't be coming up behind anyone and yelling 'surprise'!

Unfortunately its also battery-powered and its run out of juice. And we can't get the battery back off the foot...so back to the old Mod3...two steps forward, one step back.

Ankles are good. Help shift some weight around and re-balance. Hope it all works out for you. That iWalk is cool!

I KNOW you can drive a Ferrari, so get moving!

They're still testing them out (by a private company--not military). They're being developed for the general public but tested first on veterans. Not everyone is a good candidate. They're not meant to be used in running or by someone who engages in lots of activity or by above knee amputee, etc. So its more that my injuries made me a good test of the device versus someone who is taking it away from a veteran

Moonpie--They're sort of using you as a guinea pig then I guess. Fair enough. Hopefully your trials and tribulations with the prosthetic will benefit our wounded veterans and lead to a better quality of life for you as well. Good luck and and good results.

A guinea pig I am, and I can say its not going well. So to spare a veteran, that is good. I don't know that I have the stamina to test his device. Its brutal and killing me. If I spare someone else this pain it will be worth it.
