My surgeon wants me to walk barefoot (which will also mean taking the shoe off the prosthetic) to build the muscles and bones in my remaining foot. I tried it today, wearing non-stick socks and walking within parallel bars at the MATC.
Its a little strange walking on my right foot. The first thing I noticed is I have no heel bone. I knew this, of course, from my x-rays but imagine standing on your foot with no heel. Its an out-of-body experience.
And then there is the bicycle chain of steel in the center of the foot holding what's left of the bones together.
Not a pleasant walk by any means but a first step...

I was just complaining about my ankles hurting. Guess I'll shut up now.
I have to give you so much credit, though, for taking that first step. Think about how many people just say, "Screw this" and give up. You're very brave. Thank you.
It makes me feel better to know someone else is having ankle trouble. :)
Go girl!!!
