Flashbacks to a parallel universe

I'm starting to think a lot about the time when I was unconscious, and living in a parallel universe. I thought the military was trying to kill me. A female Marine had broken my leg with a baseball bat. It was all part of some grand experiment in which my boss had volunteered me to sacrifice. I remember nurses ignoring my pleas for help, even when an officer put a price on my head and I saw the assassins (young soldiers in need of money) coming for me at night with loaded weapons. I could see their gun barrels sticking through the tent where I was laying on a gurney unable to move. President Obama was trying to reach me by telephone and the military nurses wouldn't hand me the phone. I couldn't move to get it myself. I was afraid he'd be angry. Barbara Starr of CNN was doing live shots about my survival and hoping to air the President's phone call to me.

Sometimes I walked around and smoked a cigarette, wondering where I was.

In reality I wasn't walking, of course. And the phone never rang. It was safely hidden on the floor under my bed. The military had orders not to let anyone contact me by phone or in person. There was a blackout on my condition and whereabouts. But I didn't know that in my medically induced coma.

And I didn't understand my sister's looks of concern and confusion when I told her everything I believed was happening.

Sometimes the entire thing seems surreal. I wake up and roll to the hospital and along the way wonder if this really happened at all.

Wow! I see a screenplay in your future. (Might as well cash in on your experience!) Please don't think I'm being insensitve, but I wonder if you've seen "Avatar" and if you did, what you thought of it.

That parallel universe was frightening to me, but so real to you. Remember when you thought the nurses had made videos of you getting your hair washed in the shampoo caps?

Moonpie said...

Yes!!! They were going to use it to blackmail me and show what idiots journalists are!

Yes! And once when you were in post-op you heard laughing at the nurses station and said "SEE! They're watching the video of me!".
