Back in Baghdad

It's cold and gloomy. And that's my mood as well. I got off a helicopter last night and learned that another helo had been shot at and forced to make a "hard landing". I called Soldier from the landing zone and he came and retrieved me. He gave me a cookie. I slept overnight in the Green Zone, in my favorite room where the military stores its Gatorade and pre-packaged muffins. It has a wonderful smell, a bed without a sink hole, and a mousetrap. I got my first real shower in days.

I've been working on my Diyala stories ever since I arrived back at the hotel.

Equipment, clothes, food and packs of cigarettes are spread all over my room.

But despite my best efforts, and risking my life for what I think is an important story, Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith made the hourly newscast. I did not.

If I have to see or hear one more story about Britney or Annna Nicole I'm going to throw my television/radio out the window. The only news show I've seen that hasn't talked about it is the Daily Show with Jon Stewart... go figure.

Now that is bizarre. I was watching Entertainment Tonight with some soldiers at their chow hall in Baqouba (I kid you not) and it was all about Britney. One of the soldiers commented that he couldn't wait to see how Jon Stewart did the story....ha!
