A noisy morning

The noise began again before 7 this morning. There were two large explosions I first thought were bombs then realized were tanks. That was followed by several mintes of heavy gunfire. This series was repeated several times throughout the morning as part of some clearing operations that are underway on Haifa Street.

I learned this morning that a Marine I'd interviewed in Fallujah a couple of months ago has been killed in an ied attack. He was a wise-guy, and he was funny. When I'd asked him out the upcoming mid-term elections he asked, "who cares?" He was too busy to follow the political fighting.
